Brown Bear Ramble Kickoff
The Canton Free Library invites families to help celebrate the launch of the Brown Bear Ramble scavenger hunt experience, a permanent sculpture trail in downtown Canton. Beginning promptly at 10:00am on Saturday, October 7th in the Canton Village Park, the Brown Bear Ramble will begin with a reading of the iconic story "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?" by Bill Martin Jr. and Eric Carle, as well as the singing of the Brown Bear Rap. Following the reading of the story, the park will be filled with crafts and activities presented by SUNY Canton Early Childhood education students and Dr. Maureen Maicco. Other activities include face painting by K&M Face Painting, have your picture taken with the Brown Bear, and using the map, explore and find the bronze statues located throughout the Village! Children will receive gift bags for participation and prizes for finding all 11 sculptures.
While you ramble down Main Street, visit the TAUNY Center to view an exhibit showcasing the process of sculpting and casting the bronze statues. From 12:00pm-4:00pm, you can learn about a variety of metal arts through interactive demonstrations by artists.
Anytime between 10:00am - 4:00pm, visit the St. Lawrence County Historical Association to enjoy an exhibit of metal artifacts and learn about the history of metalwork in our region.
Statues installed throughout the downtown Canton area may be found at the following locations:
