Cheese sampling in Potsdam

The Potsdam Food Co-op's 2nd Thursday Sampling will be held on January 11th from 3:30 - 5:30 pm in their store at 24 Elm Street. The Say Cheese Please! feature will be January's Cheese of the Month; Smoked Gouda. Smoked Gouda is a semi-hard sausage-shaped cheese made from pasteurized cow's milk. It has a creamy yellow interior and an edible brown rind, reputed to be the best part of the cheese! Despite being a humble cheese, it holds its own with the finest specialty foods. Smoked Gouda is sensational with dark beer but also pairs well with Sangiovese Chianti, Chateauneuf du Pape, or Pinot Noir and Pinot Grigio wines. Suggestions: Serve Smoked Gouda on a platter with dried fruit, spiced nuts, dark chocolate, and baked naan. Also delicious as an accompaniment to potato-leek soup, whole grain bread, or on a grilled turkey or chicken sandwich. Featured in a grilled cheese sandwich on multigrain bread, it could become the next Co-op favorite! The Potsdam Food Co-op & Carriage House Bakery and Deli is located at 24 Elm St. and is open daily from 8am to 7pm.
