Name: Cheese sampling in Potsdam
Date: November 8, 2018
Time: 3:30 PM - 5:30 PM EST
Event Description:
The Potsdam Food Co-op's Cheese of the Month for November will be offered during their 2nd Thursday Sampling on November 8th. From 3:30 - 5:30 pm you will have the opportunity to sample Chèvre from Cedar Hedge Farm in Lowville, NY. This regional Chèvre is an unsalted artisanal cheese made from the milk of the goats on Cedar Hedge Farm. The creaminess of goat milk makes it ideal for soft cheeses such as Chèvre. Goat's milk also has the added bonus of being easier to digest than other dairy. This unsalted Chèvre is touted as being an ‘adult cream cheese with a slight tang’. Whisk plain yogurt with white wine vinegar, then fold in crumbled Chèvre for a classic salad dressing, or blend it with buttermilk, minced chives, and cream to make an easy Nordic-style salad dressing. Warm Chèvre slices on crostini in the oven for an elegant touch to salads. Suggestions: Serve Chèvre with fresh baguette from the Co-op’s Carriage House Bakery, crackers, jams, honey, fruit, & nuts. Try it in a cheesecake recipe in place of traditional cream cheese. Serve it as part of a savory appetizer paired with an aromatic white wine, a light-bodied red, or a gin cocktail. Serve Chèvre instead of dessert when having dinner with friends along with a crisp white wine or a light-bodied red. For a romantic dinner pair it with Champagne. On the day of the sampling, this silky cheese will be showcased as a delicious holiday appetizer layered with cranberries, walnuts, and honey. You'll want to make this for your guests this season. It is easy to make and sure to impress. The Potsdam Food Co-op is located at 24 Elm St. and opened daily from 8am to 7pm. It is a member-owned cooperative grocery store (although membership is not required) where everyone is welcome to shop and anyone is welcome to join. Committed to the community and local sustainability, its emphasis is on providing natural and organic foods with the practice of buying from local and regional growers and producers. There are daily offerings from the Co-op’s natural foods deli, and artisan breads and sweets from its bakery, which features a wood-fired oven. A large selection of specialty foods such as gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian, and vegan foods are also available.
