Food sampling in Potsdam

The Potsdam Food Co-op's 3rd Thursday Sampling will be held on January 18th from 3:30 - 5:30pm. Featured will be Injera with two sauces from Jemila's Kitchen of Potsdam. Injera is a sourdough-risen flatbread made with gluten-free teff flour. It has a unique and slightly spongy texture and is a national dish of Eritrea and Ethiopia, located in East Africa. Jemila Saleh immigrated to Potsdam as a refugee from Eritrea in 2008 with her three daughters. She has been sharing Injera with its delicious sauces ever since. The unique taste and nutritional value of this vegan and gluten-free dish of her home country quickly earned her a following and has enhanced the culinary experience for many in the North Country. On January 18th Jemila will serve her Injera with Shiro, a chickpea sauce, as well as a Cabbage Sauce. These simple and delicious sauces are perfect accompaniments to the Injera. The Co-op currently sells Jemila’s dried Injera, which can be rehydrated if desired, and also her sauces. You can find them in the international section of the Co-op. The Potsdam Food Co-op & Carriage House Bakery and Deli is located at 24 Elm St. and is open daily from 8am to 7pm. It is a member-owned cooperative grocery store (although membership is not required) where everyone is welcome to shop and anyone is welcome to join.
