The St. Lawrence County Rock & Mineral Club will hold its annual show


Browse beautiful mineral specimens, crystals, gems, and fossils too at this annual event hosted by The St. Lawrence County Rock & Mineral Club! The show offers something for everyone. The Fluorescent mineral tent is a must see! Free mineral kits are available for kids both days of the event and free wire wrapping classes available for adults. Amethyst cathedral drawing and silent auctions both days.

For the serious and novice rock hound alike, fun and fellowship for rock hounds from New York, the Northeastern and Mid-Atlantic states including OH, VA and GA. The event is a unique visual and hands-on shopping experience for the general public.

  • A mineral collecting trip to one of St. Lawrence County's famous rock-hunting sites (Saturday)
You’ll be able to purchase chances to win a large Brazilian amethyst cathedral for $1.00 each or six for $5.00. Drawing for the winning ticket is at 2 PM Sunday afternoon.

A specially featured mineral identification table is available for those bringing unknown rock or mineral specimens along with them. Dozens of collectors will be set up for selling their extensive collections on Saturday from 9am - 4:30pm and Sunday 9am - 3pm.

A fluorescent mineral hunt for kids will take place on Friday, August 23rd, starting at dusk. This popular event is free to children 12 and under. They’ll be able to borrow a portable black light to search for samples of brightly colored fluorescent minerals and keep all of the minerals that they find.

Wire-wrapping lessons given both Saturday and Sunday by Dave Millis from Pennsylvania are a special treat. He is well known for his gem trees and wire-wrapped jewelry and he’s giving free demonstrations to anyone who wants to learn his craft.

There’s a silent auction on both days of the show. Everyone at the show will have the opportunity to look over, inspect, and bid on mineral specimens, crystals, jewelry, and other items of interest throughout the day.

A guided field trip departs to Power’s farm, a renowned location for black tourmaline and quartz crystals, on Saturday at 9:00 am. The fee for collecting there is $5.00 per day.

No pets inside the pavilion. The Canton Pavilion has an extensive parking area and is located on the banks of the Grasse River with convenient walking trails and benches as well as a playground for children.

Proceeds from this event sponsor mineralogy scholarships at SUNY Potsdam and St. Lawrence University as well as fund “Mineral Kits for Kids” and the “Kids’ Fluorescent Mineral Hunt”.
