Name: “Nocturne” Reception
Date: August 3, 2018
Time: 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM EDT
Event Description:

The Frederic Remington Art Museum in Ogdensburg will host a public reception for the annual Morristown Plein Air Festival artists on Friday, August 3rd from 7 to 9 pm. Cost is $5 per person; snacks and a cash bar will be available.

“Plein air” refers to painting outdoors. During the four day Morristown festival, artists are invited to come into the community to paint the local landscapes. The reception at the Remington Museum is an opportunity for visiting artists to socialize with one another and with the public.

The public reception at the Remington Museum has been dubbed a “nocturne,” which refers to a painting depicting an evening or night-time scene. On the night of the reception, artists of all skill levels are invited to paint en plein air as evening descends. There will be painting by firelight on the Museum’s Eleanor Vilas McNally Courtyard, and the Museum venue offers a diverse range of environments and subjects for nocturne painting, including the St. Lawrence riverfront park with a gazebo, playground, monumental sculpture; several public gardens, and numerous historic buildings.

Several other programs will be offered as part of the Nocturne reception. Festival painters have been invited to set up displays of their paintings for sale and admiration. At 8:00 pm Museum educators will talk about Remington’s celebrated nocturne paintings. And the annual Members’ Juried Art Exhibit, which features several plein air works, will be on display in the Museum’s Richard E. Winter Gallery and Torrey Family Gallery.
