Twenty-five years ago, in October of 1992, Local Living Venture organizers coordinated the first tours of renewable energy homes in the North Country through the Real Goods Catalog, inspiring the very first of many North Country Sustainable Energy Fairs. My, how far we've come! Three tracks - three regions! St. Lawrence River Valley + NW Adirondack sites OFF GRID Many off-grid home energy and homestead systems will be featured. A multitude of building styles, heating options, energy sources, water systems, solid waste systems, root cellars, cooking innovations, outbuildings of interest, unusual garden features...much more! GRID TIED On-grid Apex Solar and Northern Lights Energy homes will be toured as a special track for the first time - gain feedback from homeowners on how it works, how they like it, how much it costs/saves! GREEN HOME/STEADS Featuring homes that don't have renewable energy components but otherwise have unique building techniques or other simple living elements of interest. What's on tap? An "earthship home" (rammed earth in recycled tires) wih a rocket mass heater An entre self-reliance campus with five mortgage free homes in cordwood, straw bale, timber framed and earth bermed. A large organic farm run entirely on solar and wind power Simple living primitive homestead shows how to live healthier on less Many grid-tied homes PLUS greywater sytems, root cellars, passive solar, composting toilets, much more!
